Conditions: Bare ground from Beaver Brook Rest Area to about 1/2 mile up the Gail River Tr. Patches of ice and crusty snow to the new trail re-route. Snow depth increases with elevation. About 1" of new powder this morning, higher up, which was melting off the branches all day. Snow was firm this morning for awhile, so I was in Hillsounds to just below the open view area, where I switched to snowshoes. I kept my snowshoes on for the rest of the hike, until I was back on mostly bare ground
One big blowdown in the middle of the trail down low, easy to get around. No water crossing problems. Sun came out just for a short while when I was at the hut. Warm day with softening snow. Snowshoes a must for these conditions. I had the trail to myself today. |
