Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Access into Marshfield Station not bad for an unsanded icy road; same for lot. Highland lot had lots of cars but still room.

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Mt. Eisenhower trail signs on snow surface; no post visible. There are several paths on Jewell down a ways from the ridge; most are off the trail for a stretch, while on trail there were some deep spots even in snowshoes. It's no big deal unless visibility was greatly restricted.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great day for Pepper and Cinnilla. Very little icing, easy pawpath on trails, often crusty surfaces off trail were easy going, and lots of treats. No dangerous sections on trail (not even the usual icy section between Monroe and Washington) and if kept close on Gulfside (retractable leashes are useful and we used the tracks to avoid the section where it goes by the ravine) no dangerous spots nearby. Bring water. Mildish temps, sun and for the most part little or no wind until Washington were perfect for puppers.

Comments
Comments: 2 barebooting and 1 in Hillsounds up to Pierce. Snowshoes went on there in anticipation of drifting, but there wasn't a lot of it. Bareboots/light traction would have worked but I liked snowshoes with its traction best. Per and Georg put traction on at Monroe, but I was lazy andand wanted to use the MSR televators going up George. I kept them on thereafter; Per put snowshoes on part way down Jewell as there's more snow on it; it is quite different from the other trails and seems to get less use this winter. Again snowshoes weren't essential for user or trail, but it was a nice snowshoe down.

It was a spectacular Presi day all morning long, and only when we reached the upper parts of George did we find wind and chill. The wind picked up enough after that on the ridge that we skipped Jefferson, but below the ridge it became quite nice. It was also a good day to meet and visit with some great hikers, including 4K4K Hiker Ed, John G. and others, Dave L solo and more going N to S, Matt doing a full Presi traverse loop S to N coming back via snowmobile trails, and Silverfox at Highland Center. Thanks Georg and Per for inviting me and the little mutt along. What a day!
