Comments
Comments: Snowshoes were absolutely necessary. Towards the lower elevations there was no snow but plenty of running water on the trail. Snow started after that, we put on snowshoes about a mile and a half into the hike and they were necessary until the summit. Snow was very weak and we post holed a few times up to our hips, but still doable to travel on pretty quickly. We didn’t take either bushwhack on the way up because they weren’t broken out, and we regretted not taking the Engine Hill bushwhack because the main trail had significant holes in the snowpack with running water and mud. This made for slow going and careful footsteps. Took the EH bushwhack on the way back (it had been broken out by earlier hikers by then) and then we were cruising. Very hard day hike but still doable.
