Comments
Comments: Lovely day on Starr King Trail. Easily bumped into a couple of dozen hikers, being a great choice with the high waters on some other 4ks. 41 degrees at the start featuring a very wet, muddy trail up until around 2900’. At this point, entering the evergreens, evidence of some ice and what is to come appeared. Spikes went on at this point and continued on until I returned to this spot. The snow/rail was stable the majority of the hike. This was surprising with all the recent rain. I encountered some light rain, freezing rain, and a few fat snowflakes but the temps were decent. A few postholes between Starr King and Waumbek summit, but if you stay in the center, no issues at all. Only a few critters out today- a couple of squirrels and some Gray Jays. I did not see any snowshoes worn but carried and I would recommend the same as we go through this meltdown.
