Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Both parking lots are well plowed and down to dirt. There was a full pine tree down across York Pond Rd on our way in—-we drove over the branches. On our way out the hatchery had removed it
Surface Conditions

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Despite the warmer temperatures and two days of deluge, there were still a few snow bridges holding strong. 99% of the unbridged crossings are rock hopable. The major crossing in the first mile has several rocks underwater, but we were able to keep our feet dry with careful placement
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few duck unders and one step over
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No doggos today, way too windy and cold
Bugs
Bugs: Unless they had anchors, they were blown 1000 miles away with these gusts

Comments
Comments: Wicked winds kept everyone off the ridgeline and we all turned up at Cabot! Chilly temps at 8 am provided a picture perfect microspikable trail to the Cabin, but I used snowshoes from the KRT junction because I love my televators! Snow was soft from the cabin to the true summit, so most folks donned snowshoes for this portion. On the descent the sun made a star appearance, which gave way to a bit of slip-sliding snowshoe skiiing for any sections in the sun. Fortunately 90% of the folks we saw today wore snowshoes, so the trail was gorgeous from end to end, even with a few wayward postholes to Australia. The numerous water crossings were annoying but easily managed, I suspect with this new storm they might be persuaded to bridge? A beautiful day for my 4th season of Cabot!
