This was a trip to check out the new John Summers Trail at Pisgah State Park, which formally replaces an old herd path route along the eastern shore of the pond. This trail is well blazed and signed, but does yet appear on maps. It connects two sides of the Kilburn Loop Trail, providing a shorter loop hike around the pond than the much longer KLT route. Lots of twists and turns and minor ups and downs as the trail follows the shoreline. Short side paths lead to nice sitting ledges at the water's edge. Total stats for this loop are 3.5 mi. with 280' gain. |
