Mountain biking loop.
Rob Brook Rd is great, easy doubletrack with no obstacles. We were only on the Nan for a half mile, where it leaves Rob Brook Rd on the right shortly after the gate to where it comes back onto Rob Brook Rd. This small part of the Nan was really nice riding. Once back on RBR we took a right onto the old RR grade. This was pretty pleasant riding as well. We then took a left onto Owls Cliff Connector which was a bit rough with numerous blowdowns and stick debris. Some blowdowns were easily jumped over on bikes others we had to climb over/around with bikes. This would be a great trail with some love. Next we took on Owls Cliff Climb. It was a mixed bag of decent riding with some hike-a-biking. Some overgrowth and blowdowns. This is also a snowmobile trail so I would think the few blowdowns we encountered would be taken care of soon. We were unsuccessful at locating Snake Rock. Anyone been there? We then took Birch Hill Trail up to the junction of Sawyer Pond Trail where we hooked a left and headed back down to RBR. Birch Hill was a nice steady climb, slightly overgrown but nice. The one mile of Sawyer Pond Trail we were on had a couple of blowdowns that we had to detour around. Also ran into Philip Werner here! Nice meeting you, Philip!
Our loop totaled 11.75 miles and about 1700 feet of climbing. No wonder my legs are tired! Really fun with fun friends. These trails could be revived with a bit of love but until then they are rideable as long as you don’t mind overgrown thorn bushes, blowdowns, leaves, and some mud. These trails are mostly unsigned and not blazed so do some research before heading out there and definitely bring your sense of adventure. |
