Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I saw someone has been doing marvelous job using ax and saw to remove the many spruce blow downs. I observed one 8-10"spruce blow down suitable for cutting just below junction with abandoned Gleason Trail. I was able to get over it by saddling it like horse with my short legs.

Comments
Comments: with all the rain we've been having I thought I would do a hike that involved water falls so I opted to hike Sandwich Mt via Bennett Street trail. I wanted to see how Great Falls on Pond Brook would look with healthy water flow. Recent rains have been decent, but not really enough to make Great Falls live up to the name. Great Falls was still beautiful to see and glad I re-visited. I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to go all way to top of Sandwich, but ended up going the whole way. Section of trail above Flat Mt Pond Trail is seriously steep climbing 800' with very smooth trail wished I had televators. I was seriously considering bagging it until I reached the 3/4 mile section that followed the old skidder trail. That was really nice especially where you reach the head wall of ravine and trail crosses streams. On way down I noticed old skidder trail kept going, and would have loved to continue following it. I think it meets up with short section of skidder road on abandoned Gleason Trail described in WMG. I'm glad I bagged Sandwich via Bennett Street Trail. It is lightly traveled and interesting approach.
