Gate was open and logging operation is going on so the road was pretty decent and we could have drove our car another 1/2 mile past gate to an open area with lots of room for cars to park.

Comments
Comments: Congratulations to Jack from Littleton on his completion of the New Hampshire Highest 500 list today! Hiker Ed, Nancy & Charlie Foote and yours truly were pleased to accompany Jack during his hike to his final peak. We parked at the gate and walked up the road to the height of the land just past the obvious skid road thinking that the mostly open woods would be better to avoid ticks than hiking in the high grass along the skid road. We ended up at the big log clearing with super views to the north, the same place skid road will take you. From the upper right hand corner of the cut we found the Hersey Mountain Trail/Path, foot bed was relatively easy to follow all the way to the summit. Small open views from rocks/clearings short distances from summit high bump. Hersey is the town highpoint of Sanbornton and in an attempt to spark Jack's interest in town highpoints we decided to descend crossing New Hampton's highpoint. New Hampton's highpoint is on the side hill of Hersey, we descended west not far and found old red blazing on the trees near where my track showed the town line. I don't think this excited Jack or Ed but we were pleased! From here we just bushwhacked north through open woods and crossing a few grown in skid roads back to Carter Hill Road. At our cars we enjoyed a nice finish (and group tick removal) party we enjoyed plenty of cold beverages, cookies, peanuts and brownies. The owner of the land being logged stopped by and was friendly and happy we enjoyed our hike. Way to go Jack!
