| Water Crossing Notes: |
Followed several stream beds which were pretty dry most of the time. Accidentally walked into one muddy section that sucked me in up to my ankles. Luckily Al was able to avoid this after I yelled! |

| Bugs: |
Horrendous at 8 am at the car. Black flies, mosquitos, deer flies, ticks. Bug dope, anti-tick gaiters and hat worked pretty well. When we got back to the car, around 1 pm, they were almost nonexistent!!! |

Followed Gilman Valley Road until it became a snowmobile corridor. After crossing a clearing, we decided it was time to start our bushwhack up the mountain. Did cross several snow mobile trails but not sure where they were headed so stayed in the woods. As a result, this was a pretty consistent steep climb. Finally came to the cairn mentioned by Cold Camp Reporter so knew we were near. Headed to higher ground and spied the jar! Saw another cairn and briefly thought about catching Whittier as well but heavy growth turned us back. Ended up locating the drainage between the two peaks, which we followed quite a ways until we spied a snowmobile trail. We were able to follow this almost all the way to our car. When it looked as though the trail was heading away from the road, we took a right into the woods and headed directly for the gate. Popped out about 200-300' from the car. Phew! |
