Comments
Comments: Soft, bare ground at TH then progressively softer and wetter as we neared the brook and and remained this way until we hit ice/snow at the 2,984 elevation point and put on traction. Snow became progressively deeper and we took a break to put on snowshoes. The one set of footprints ahead of us was bare-booting, postholeing for as far as we followed. He/She must have been determined. Snowpack is still around 3 ft. near tree-line; highly recommend bringing snowshoes if hiking above 3,000 ft. It may look like spring down low, however it is still winter up high! As the afternoon came, rain was starting to fall, resulting in a change of plans to the Garfield Ridge junction and not North Peak summit of Lafayette. Saw nice views of Cannon Ski Area and the snow covered Bond Ridge before quickly disappearing into the clouds.
