Comments
Comments: On Monday, while on Deer Mt, we observed the wide open SW slope of Munn and a strategically located skidder road leading to the ridge just E of the summit. This observation caused us to modify our original planned bw route.
From the parking lot, we walked the Millsfield Pond Road snomo trail approx 2.75 mi, where we started our bw. Rather open woods soon gave way to wide open, sparse woods. As we gained altitude we encountered the skidder road that brought us to the ridge area, and then another skidder road that lead us to the eastern end of the broad summit. Unfortunately the skidder road deadended at a sprucy hell with deep unconsolidated snow. After hitting a few waist deep spruce traps, we encountered another skidder road heading to the NW end of the broad, flat summit. We finally found the recognized high point, but not before poking into a lot of sprucy areas.
Except for the sprucy areas, breaking was easy to moderate, sinking up to 12" in high flotation snow shoes.
Cold conditions prevented the sun from heating the snow on this bw.
Outstanding views to the Carters, Presidentials, and the Cabot area.
