Comments
Comments: A balmy day for a hike. Temps were in the mid 30s at the start and low 40s by the time I reached the car. Webster-Jackson trail is solid packed all the way to Mt Jackson summit. Minor patches of ice along the way but spikes were just fine. I was able to catch some views prior to clouds moving in. Webster Cliff trail to Mt Webster had only seen one single snowshoe track. I continued the work breaking trail following the track through a large confusing blowdown area but seeming to stay on track. There is deep snow in this area and snowshoes are required. Reaching the junction with Webster-Jackson trail again I was surprised to see little signs of traffic. It was broken with snowshoes with one set of shallow post holes the whole way up/down the Webster Branch. Snowshoes also required in this area until a deep freeze occurs, though a few more pairs of snowshoes to smooth things out would be good. Took the spur to Elephant Head on the way down, it is broken out and spikes are just fine. I was amazed how quickly this hike went and wished I had taken more time up top despite the clouds and wind. Clocked in at just over 5 hours and that was with a lot of small breaks.
