We left from the parking lot at about 0815. All trails remained unbroken from the storm Wednesday. Snowshoes were an absolute must. Three of us broke trail 5+ inches of fresh powder all the way up to the Brutus Bushwhack. River crossings were okay with extreme caution. The ice bridges were a bit soft once the temps warmed up. As the day progressed the snow got very sticky. Once on the bushwhack we were post holing up to our thighs even with snowshoes on the final ascent. We made the choice to turn back because we were so worn out and light was fading fast. Great day to be in the Pemi nonetheless! With no snow in the near future hopefully the trail breaking helped out the next to attempt the summit! |
