Comments
Comments: fresh 6-8" down low all the way to height of the land. Mt. Tom spur was drifted over and it seems like no one has been to the true summit. there was a partial path broken and stopped to the north of the summit so i broke some thigh deep snow and made a little loop on it. saw some old friends at top but i left my pack at the junction and no food so they ignored me. the snow was a little deeper heading up to field but not bad. once heading over to willey things got interesting. where the double blaze marks the trail to go right (second double blaze) there is mass confusion in this area ( if you've hiked this in the winter before, you know the spot) . i knew where to go so i went right and picked up on an old track again rather quickly, then boom....confusion again and no sign of anyone actually going where the trail is supposed to. i took some dead wood and placed it over the wrong trails that people made to act as a barrier so they know not to go those ways. its from this point i broke trail all the way to willey.. it was exhausting as hell. thigh deep snow and quite a few spruce traps got me. i never saw anything that resembled someone else being to willey recently. i ventured off actual trail i think only once but only by about 20 feet and corrected it on my way back. the outlook just past the summit was socked in so no views of webster cliffs. i took avalon trail on my way back and hit mount avalon. it wasn't until after that i finally came across some people and a very happy dog. passed a few more peeps and even a familiar face which was cool. Gaia had me at a long and exhausting 6:27. I hope people aren't falsely claiming peaks out there. your only cheating yourself.
