It was a crisp, but clear blue and calm day for a hike. We walked up the logging road to the trailhead (about an extra 20 minutes), where we walked up a road for the first few minutes. There was one set of tracks in the snow from a previous hiker and when we got to an open area, some tracks went in both directions. We quickly found the yellow blaze to the left, which continued up a logging road. Shortly after, the path diverged from the road up and to the right in the woods, following yellow blazes and a streambed. Eventually we got to a beautiful area of conifers, but once we came out in a ledgy clearing, we could not find any blazes. Presumably there were some blazes painted on the rocks under the snow? We continued up what appeared to be the trail, based on a clear break in the blueberry bushes, but further up, there was no discernable trail and no markings. At this point, we knew we should be making a sharp right up to the summit, and we bushwhacked for quite a while, finding what looked like a cairn or two. Still, no obvious trail and no blazes, so with it getting later in the day, we unfortunately had to turn around and hope for success another day. |
