Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Twin Brook looked doable, but the rocks also looked icy, so I walked around and came in through the logging road.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No significant damage from the storm to my adopted upper half of Champney Brook Trail. I removed one large blowdown shortly after the upper falls loop junction and that was it. Since I had the time, I worked on two large blowdowns near the start of the trail on the way down (heads up, Brian and Greg). A large pine at 0.2 mi. has been completely removed. Just before this is another large trunk which will need a chainsaw. A large beech at 0.3 mi. has been limbed and is now easy to climb over. The trunk will need a large handsaw or chainsaw. There are three stepovers along the relocated section. One is medium-sized, the other two are small. All are easy to get by. I checked the falls loop on the way down. There was one stepover right under a high widowmaker. I removed the former and trimmed away branches from the latter. The trunk is firmly planted against another tree so it's not going anywhere for a while.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure. I saw one who was having a great time.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: A post-storm work trip. The trail was dry in the usual places and wet in the usual places. A fair amount of ice is starting to form in the shaded switchbacks. Nothing too significant yet and there are still plenty of dry rocks to hop around it. I carried spikes but did not use them. Icy spots lower down on the trail were melting in the early afternoon.
