| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
plenty of parking at the eastern Flat Mountain Pond Trail trailhead in Whiteface/Intervale - a few cars and vans in the lot but room for many more |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water was moderately high on Whiteface River (the major crossing on the lower part of McCrillis Trail). Luckily, a tree fell apparently recently (green leaves) near a bunch of rocks so there was a good hand rail across. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Around 3000' McCrillis Trail was quite brushy. Trail sees apparently little use as there were a few places I wasn't really sure I was on-trail. On McCrillis Path, things become pretty indistinct on the western half - I kept looking back to see light blazes. There is a big re-route (not sure when it was re-routed) where things are not very obvious - once leaves fall on the path, it will be even less obvious. Lots of nice axe work everywhere. Terrific steps on Blueberry Ledge Trail - WOW - that's a lot of work - NICE!!! |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
couple of dogs greeted me at the southern end of McCrillis Path and 1 of them stayed with me for a good half mile - very cute - I was tempted to dognap her :) |
| Bugs: |
none - yay! |

| Comments: |
Terrific loop! I wanted to be on a 4K for todays flags on the 48 - group was setting up when I got there and then left shortly after. Helicopter circled overhead a bit after noon and 1pm. Nice woods walks, for the most part. Always sketchy descending Blueberry Ledge Trail but it does have amazing views!!!! |
