| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We spotted cars at the Rocky Branch parking lot at 8:30 AM and drove the 4ish miles up Route 16 to the Glen Boulder trailhead to start the hike. Although it was a holiday weekend, parking was no problem. We figured that Isolation would not be at the top of the list for holiday hikers, and we were right. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
Notwithstanding Sunday's rain, the water crossings along Isolation Trail were all rock hoppable. Just be careful with footing. We took the bushwhack to avoid the 2 water crossings that are just 70 yards apart. The bushwhack is so well used that it's a clear path. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Isolation Trail is as muddy as people say. And Rocky Branch really is walking in a stream for long stretches. But the wet was still more appealing than climbing back up South Peak on the return trip.
No blazes on Isolation Trail or Rocky Branch Trail that we can recall. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw some large dogs with their people. |
|
| Bugs: |
Some black flies near the cairn on the Isolation summit and on the descent. Once I applied some Off, they didn't bother me. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Someone "lost" 3 used tissues on the open ridge from South Peak towards Isolation. (Thumbs down.) |

| Comments: |
It had rained on Sunday so the trails, rocks and roots were wet, but we watched our footing and it was totally manageable. We were treated to some strong wind gusts and fog in the stretch of the Glen Boulder Trail between the boulder and South Peak, but hey, it's Mount Washington. The fog lifted as soon as we began our descent of South Peak and the skies were clear and views spectacular for the rest of the day. Standing on the Isolation summit and seeing Mount Washington head on, and the distance/terrain just hiked, was pretty amazing. |
