Date of Hike: Sunday, July 23, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking lot packed at 1pm on a beautiful July Sunday, with cars lining the entrance and a couple on Rte. 49. The electric substation access was largely free of cars.

Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The major crossing for both Sandwich Mtn. trail and Drake's Brook trail were both doable with a few options of rock hops. Dog chose to swim a few strokes rather than walk the log on the crossing for Drake's Brook trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Steep lower portions of Sandwich Mtn. trail are a bit eroded. There were a few muddy/wet patches above Noon Peak; just one or two boardwalks. Several muddy/wet patches midway on Drake's Brook, also in the area of a couple board walks. There is a major bouldery washout where Drake's Brook trail skirts Drake's Brook, and a small one forming higher up. I am not wise enough to know what fixes might be reasonable but it's true that any near fall-line section turns into a stream and erodes out quickly. Also we noticed one party having trouble spotting blazes, in the area of the Sandwich Mt. trail river crossing. We were not checking blazes because the path itself was so obvious, but they do seem to be fading out.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met one hiker with fear of dogs, on the mountain. Also one dog besides our own. Small dogs might need a boost in one or two spots ascending Sandwich Mtn. trail, but otherwise fine. Esp. if they like water/mud.
Bugs
Bugs: None on ascent of Sandwich Mtn. trail. Flies at summit, plus the odd black fly. By 6pm the mosquitoes were starting to come out in the lower part of Drake's Brook trail; keep moving or use repellents.

Comments
Comments: Lovely day to be out, 70's with light breeze and high, loose clouds. We had sun at the upper elevations and a view, when standing, of the Presidentials from the summit.
