| Comments: |
Mt. Clinton Rd had packed snow-mobile track, but not icy. Skis would have been idea to the trailhead and even beyond to speed up the trip to the Edmunds Path trailhead. The trail was lightly used, but was packed enough for boots only in the trees. Trail Spikes improved traction. The trail was terrific until we began to cross steep scrub slopes heading north. Then it disappeared. The wind-blown icy slope became treacherous among snow slides and scrub tops. We weren't familiar with the lay of the land or the trail route. We aborted after some poking around. The return was the best trail sledding we have found in the White Mountains. A great day. If you know the route well, and have full crampons, you'll be fine. Note that coming rain and higher temps will increase ice on steeps, making crampons a must. |
