Blue sky day with low winds. Temperatures were withing the 30 to 40 degrees. Great visibility of the Presidential range to the west and Baldface Royce range to the east. Teamed up with Bruna (a botany student from UNH) to ascend both South and Middle Carter. Bruna started with snow shoes but eventually switched to micro spikes. I used micro's throughout the day with monorail firm with minimal issues with soft snow. No traffic to speak of.
We had similar interests in that we both were on the verge of completing the 4000 footers and had many discussions on peaks and paths traveled. Couldn't have asked for a better day in the woods.
After ascending Middle Carter, I continued on the pack out Carter-Moriah trail to locate and descend North Carter trail. I ended up on North Carter summit and with Imp mountain in site and no North Carter trail or sign located, I decided to return the the way traveled.
Both ascending and descending trail conditions were packed out with minimal soft snow issues.
