The trail had already been broken out by a snowshoer most likely the day before so it was easy to follow up until about mile 3.8. This is where the trail was no longer broken and also where the blazes seemed to completely disappear. After spending about a half an hour or so making several attempts to locate another blaze, my adventure buddy and I decided to turn around and descend. This cemented the need for me to invest in a Garmin. For the trails we did cover, we found that the conditions invited the use of crampons and snow shoes equally as the snow was rather packed however, with the warm sun coming in later in the morning, adding some melt, snow shoes were the better choice. |
