This was an amazing day. Snowshoes up to hut and crampons up to Washington and Monroe. I put snowshoes back on at bottom of stream bed area. Some trail notes for all. Shortly after the stream crossing left to right, trail goes up a woody section to another piece of stream bed on the left and then back into woods. For now the stream bed is the trail. At the end of that you have to make a diagonal uphill to the right in a large snowfield. You finally get back on real trail just below the hut. Above the hut there is a very large icy snowfield. Be sure to go straight across on same contour or slightly uphill. Do not get sucked downhill. Finally, getting to summit of Monroe where the tricky ledge is, folks are going to left and up corner of rock outcrop. Plants are taking a beating. Better to head to the right on snowfield and work way up back to where trail is. |
