Comments
Comments: I experienced different conditions than the report from yesterday. :/ All trails are frozen solid, but not smooth due to frozen boot prints and an assortment of postholes.

I started out in spikes up to the start of the logging road. Part way up the logging road, I switched to snowshoes due to some minor drifting and to take advantage of the heel lifts. I left them on until the Sosman junction, where I switched back to spikes.

The Sosman part of the summit loop is a very narrow icy monorail. Passing will be interesting. Very little wind at the summit, but very cold this morning. No recent traffic on the MTT part of the loop, so I decided to descend that way. I got about halfway down where I hit deep postholes and a steep icy sidehill section I wasn't cool with, so I turned back and went over the summit again.

No recent traffic across the ridge via Sosman either. This stretch was a mess. Lots of deep frozen postholes hidden by drifted snow. I stepped in several and got my foot wedged in one pretty good. From the tower, I walked down the access road to the top of the ski area for the views.

On the descent, I found several more postholes along the logging road stretch. Ow. Surprisingly, I didn't see another hiker all day. Maybe the forecast kept people away.
