Thanks to those who broke out this trail and bushwhacks. Didn't look easy...saw some deep snowshoe holes!
It appeared some folks had barebooted up to the Avalanche Brook Ski Trail, but beyond there very few human postholes. There was, however, a poor moose who had used the trail from the height-of-land most of the way down (back toward NH 16). She left some big holes!
Otherwise, this trail is in pretty good shape, considering all the snow, then warm temps. The tree gods made me sacrifice my right short-sleeve, but it was a small price to pay for the lovely glades. Okay, they demanded some blood too, but that's fine.
Bushwhacks were easy to follow. The only potentially confusing portion of trail was a 'Y' junction about halfway up Rocky Branch (between parking lot and height-of-land). I'm guessing it's where Bill came down from the Engine Hill yesterday. Just bear left there.
No one had been down Rocky Branch (toward lower Isolation Trail junction) or down Isolation (toward Rocky Branch junction). Likewise, no one had been on the Davis path north of the Isolation Trail junction or south of the Isolation spur for quite some time. |
