Comments
Comments: The total roundtrip from car to summit was 6.9 miles. The first 2 are down Sawyer River Road to get to the Signal Ridge Trailhead. This is a gravel road in summer but unplowed in winter. We were passed by a number of snow mobiles. The trail was broken all the way up but very narrow especially at the higher elevations. Towards the top it gets very narrow and we had to push our way through gauntlets of overhanging pine branches. We passed about 4 other snowshoers out for the day. It was snowy and gray at the top with no views but it was still an amazing feeling being at the top of a windswept 4,000 footer in the dead of winter. The observation tower was coated in a thick layer of frosty ice. It was a very challenging hike but worth the effort.
