The Old Man and the Saw and I had a great day in the woods, and were the only ones on the trail today. The wind was quite fierce sounding in the trees overhead, but was not an issue to be dealt with except near each peak (lingering was out of the question). We wore HH spikes and HH Pros from the PL to the tent site, where we switched to snowshoes. We left the snowshoes on over both peaks, and back to a ways below the tent site. There was very little hard ice to deal with. The trail to the tent site, except for the bushwhack was, and still is, well packed out and firm. We had to break through 2-3 inches of ice crusted snow between the two peaks. The entire trail is now pretty well packed out and post-hole free, and along the way we removed a number of blow downs and eye pokers. |
