Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Well plowed lot at Ferncroft, as usual.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one crossing on Dicey's Mill Tr. is crossable, though there is a large step down and then step up to get across the stream. Alternatively, there is a large birch tree across, which works well as a bridge for those with good balance.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A large crawl over blowdown shortly above the USFS boundary, with a walk around. A few minor duck unders and leaners above Rollins Tr.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: great hike for Fido today, they stayed on top of the crust.

Comments
Comments: Dicey's Mill Tr well packed. MICROspikes worked well in the hardwoods section. Once the forest transitioned to conifers, snowshoes worked better.
East Loop: Post holed by both human and moose for a short distance from Dicey's. Bent over softwoods in the trail made for slow going in a couple of places.
Walden: There is a crust with loose unconsolidated snow underneath. The crust would not support our weight on steep pitches (there were quite a few) resulting in periods of floundering. When the pitch was shallower, it was an easy walk on top of the crust. Allow plenty of time to do this summit loop.
