Trail is packed the entire way. I wore spikes car to car. Saw about 10 others, with all but two in spikes or bare boots. Hancock notch was a little powder over some frozen slush foot prints in areas that were annoying on tired legs. Coulda shoulda wore the shoes over the ridge to pack the drifts, but was feeling lazy. With all the traffic, it should be fine now. I recommend going up north and down south, although I was the only one going that direction, and I typically do the opposite. North was more chunky with some steps and some exposed rocks, and was getting sticky in the sun making it fairly easy to ascend. South was a smooth glissade the entire way with only a few sections of hidden blue ice.
Hancock Notch past Cedar Brook, and Cedar Brook past the loop trail were unbroken. |
