Comments
Comments: Started before daylight on Crawford Path after a great night at Highland. Light snow, low wind and reasonable temps up to Pierce. Good visibility through Eisenhower. Wind picked up and visibility dropped on the approach to Monroe. North side of Monroe was in the clouds. Low wind but visibility was extremely limited. We could only see Lake of the Clouds hut when we were at its doorstep (compass skills, for the win). Bailed on our Washington attempt and escaped via Ammonoosuc. Waist deep snow for the first 1/4 mile of Ammonoosuc called for snowshoes. Aside from that short stretch, we wore Hillsounds tip to tail. Some drifting in the saddles between peaks but we rarely broke through the crust. Not much snow on Eisenhower and Monroe but some significant icy spots.

The long slog back from the Cog Railway to Highland wasn't part of our initial plans but it was a gorgeous walk on Mt. Clinton Road. Grateful for the Trail Angel Hiker Services ride back to Pinkham to get our car.
