Since there hasn't been a report in a little while: Crawford Path to junction with AT all packed down; spikes are good for that; heading over to Eisenhower snowshoes were my choice for many unpacked sections; the closer you get to Eisenhower, the less snow exists though--some areas are hard ice, others are bare rock, then an area of deep unpacked snow.... it got frustrating; I loved the snowshoeing from Pierce to approx. 2/3 over to Eisenhower, but did not enjoy the changing trail conditions ascending Eisenhower thereafter... so much so that I turned around; can't comment on the actual summit. If you have patience with the different conditions or have the motivation 'to get that peak' for your list, then the trail conditions won't be an issue. Best views were in between Eisenhower and Pierce this morning, so I was satisfied with not summiting; Eisenhower started to be in the clouds from approx. 11am onwards. FYI, trail not at all broken out from Pierce towards Mizpah/Jackson.
Lovely start to the winter. |
