| Comments: |
There were two long stretches of trail with water running on trail or soft ice with breakable crust. In both of these places there were plenty of rocks that can be used to avoid getting wet. The first stretch was on the Rocky Branch Trail from Engine Hill down to the Rocky Branch River. The second stretch was on the Isolation Trail from the last crossing of the Rocky Branch River up to the primitive campsite. There were other shorter sections of trail that had water, ice, and mud. I elected not to use traction today but it would be best to have micro-spikes available. The Rocky Branch Trail from the trailhead up to Engine Hill was covered in leaves which hid some loose rocks. The Isolation Trail between the second and third crossings was mostly bare ground. The Davis Path was primarily bare ground or a thin coat of snow with spots of water and ice.
Nice views from the summit of Mt Isolation. The Gray Jay was fed pretzels, nuts, and cheez-its on Mt Isolation. Two woman finished the 48th 4K on Mt Isolation today. |
