Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: from groton i drove sculptured rocks road which turns into province road to its junction with kimball hill road. snowmo signs for corridor 24w and others at the juction. this is the last road just before the road dead ends at a washed out bridge. if coming in from dorchester side you would have to park on the other side of the river and cross. the road is gated and there are modified posted signs that have the "prohibited" part taped off which after some head scratching i decided means that access is allowed, but to be aware the road crosses through private land. if i am wrong please let me know and i will modify this report. the drive in was a little rough in spots, but not a problem in a medium clearance car. low clearance would be a little more picky.

Comments
Comments: nice walking up the road. grades were moderate and the going was quick. i stayed straight at a couple snowmo trail junctions up to the northwest slope of north catalouchee where the road levelled at an old log landing. i picked a fortuitous old skid road to follow out of the landing as it became almost like an old woods road and helped me make good progress towards the peak. the road completely disappeared around the cardigan state forest boundary line and i continued up through open woods to start then through some short bits of scrappy spruce before reaching the summit area which had mostly open evergreen forest. the recognized highpoint was easy to spot, but i still visited a few other bumps in the general vicinity. descending i tried to follow the same route and lucked back onto the skid road i walked in on. from there it was a nice walk back down to province road with some occasional good views. light snow and a seasonal breeze the whole hike.
