Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Rte 63, after doing another hike I made my way via dirt roads to Gulf Road to the Madame Sherri parking lot. The parking lot looks like there is room for 10 cars maybe, there was only one other car in the lot. There were signs up saying you'll be ticketed if you park on the side of the road all parking must be in the is small lot.

Comments
Comments: Wantastiquet Mountain is the highpoint of Hinsdale. Short walk to the castle site and I checked out the famous stone staircase and returned to the Ann Stokes Trail and headed up. This mountain sure felt like a mountain today, it is all up hill from the start and after Indian Pond it is steep before hitting the ridge and the ups and downs. I trucked on by all the way to the lookout ledge with the memorial monument with the good view down into Brattleboro (I could see the ski jump). On the way back I walked around the big tower, bushwhacked to some ledgy bumps, hit the highpoint, there are pieces of sheet metal and stuff and a rock cairn. I found some obstructed views to Mine Ledge. I went out and back on the Mine Ledge Trail and it is well worth it because it is terrific with great views--if you go all the way to the end you can see Monadnock. The ledge has a sharp ridge and down below are lots of broken rock scree--cool. (total distance was just over 4 miles)
