| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
i parked just before the last house on stowe mountain road in hillsborough in a nice pull off. the first woods road i followed (maybe a class 6 extension of stowe mountain road?) continues straight ahead past the house with no prohibitions. |

i headed up the road assuming it would connect with a road shown on the usgs running east to west along the south side of stowe hill which it did (this road actually appears on the map to do a loop around the peak). the only prohibitions noted along the first road were against motorized vehicles.
i took a left (west) onto this second road, a bit grassy and overgrown, and followed it around to another road depicted on the usgs running straight up (north) to the summit. this road was quite nice and did one switch back to the east before climbing straight up to the highpoint where there is evidence of some sort of old structure (possibly an observation tower?). just before the road reaches the summit at a ledge a herd path leaves left (northwest) and runs a short distance to a very nice ledge with wide views east as well as north. the perspective on lovewell and the pillsbury park area peaks is especially cool. from the ledge some sort of footpath left to the north and points unknown.
i returned the same route using a short bushwhack to cut back down to stowe mountain road to save a bit of walking. |
