Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails were in great shape. I wish the ATV/snowmobile trail sections were in better shape. These sections tend to be eroded and/or have a lot of loose rock. So it's difficult to get in to a good rhythm on these sections because you have to be constantly aware or you can turn an ankle or knee.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Lots of horse flies. They didn't bite but kept hovering around our heads. There were a lot of black flies/gnats around the swampy areas.

Comments
Comments: This was a redlining hike. In my opinion, the back way up Major is the way to go. We were the only hikers on the trail. We didn't see a soul until we reached the intersection with the Brook Trail near the summit. Once we left the Major summit area we were alone again headed toward Straightback. There was one spot on the Jesus Valley-Beaver Pond trail were the trail was wet and muddy (near the marsh just below the first ledges of Major). There were herd paths to get around it all. Overall a good day. It was sunny, warm and no humidity.
