| Water Crossing Notes: |
None of any significance. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Jewell needs a spring cleaning. Several blowdowns, including two larger ones where bypasses have formed. The side path to Greenough Spring from Gulfside is a bit overgrown. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure, if they love rocky terrain. |
|
| Bugs: |
Yes. :( Not bad in the woods or on the climb to Clay above treeline, but once on the summit, the black flies were nasty. The forecasted winds would have kept them at bay, but they didn't materialize. |

| Lost and Found: |
Nothing. |

A spectacular day above treeline to climb Mt. Clay by itself, a great destination in its own right. JT is a nice, fairly easy and gradual approach. I wasn't previously a fan of this trail, but enjoyed it more on this day. Once above treeline, it becomes rockier, and then your typical northern Presidential boulder hop. We ascended Clay from the southern side of the loop, with eye-popping views down into the Great Gulf, and descended the northern side of the loop. From there we circled back around via Gulfside and then back down JT. One small patch of snow on the MCL and one tiny patch of ice on Gulfside that is likely gone now. Didn't see many people until the descent down Jewell, where we encountered lots of folks finishing their Washington loops. |
