Comments
Comments: Some more redlining today to finish up the Anna / Mack / Klem area. From the camp I walked the main road about a half mile and then picked up the YT for a few yards, then the MRT. Nice trail! It passes through the bottom of a neat boulder field right away. The rockslide section up the end of the ridge is steep and fun, and also dry and mostly ice free. Lots of leaves though, which were slippery. In general, lower elevations are a mix of dry ground, frozen granular snow patches and ice patches. Up higher is a mix of rock-solid (but grippy) snowpack and ice. I barebooted most of the trip and only put on spikes for one icy section coming down from Mack. There is one long section of thick ice on the north side of the KML which I bushwhacked around. Tremendous views from the loop today, clear as a bell. Neat to hear the ice chunking and moving around on Round Pond. Lower RPT is very scenic, traversing the edge of a gorge, with a few ledge outlooks over to Swett, Piper and Belknap. Temps were cold and the wind biting, but that was negated somewhat by the bright sun. Didn't think I'd get out this way during winter, but the conditions are favorable right now.
