Comments
Comments: On my to do list for a long time, I finally got to Piermont. After parking, I walked the main camp road to the end, where the trail leaves left (signed). A couple of inches of collapsible crust in the woods. I carried snowshoes, but stayed in spikes. The first part of the trail climbs at easy grades, then reaches a vast logged area. Take care to follow the trail through here as it twists and turns a bit. This section was also very wet. After the last drainage crossing, the trail gets STEEP and stays steep until hitting the ridge. Just before the ridge is a very steep and icy scramble. Fortunately, there are lots of roots and trees to grab on to. The final section just before the summit is brushy and overgrown with snow-laden branches. The summit ledges themselves offer a fantastic view over to Carr, Moosilauke and the Benton Range. Mostly overcast skies, but the sun did pop out for a few minutes while on top. No wind at all. Conditions had softened on the way down and I ended up taking off my spikes as they were balling up. Lots of wet bare ground down low. A bit of a slog to get there today, but a lovely little peak!
