Comments
Comments: trails were damp from recent rain with some slippery rock especially above the straightback mountain/beaver pond split. where the beaver pond trail makes a hard right turn at a swamp i turned left to find the bear pass trail. this trail is shown on the dave roberts map of the belknaps. it is not marked or readily apparent for about 25 yards or so in, but once you find it you will know. it is well marked and easy to follow up to its junction, also obscure, with the straightback mountain trail a minute or two from the summit. a nice piece up trail that makes for a good lollipop hike option for straightback. open ledges were all dry. straightback mountain trail in good shape and generally dry until back down in the taller trees.

nice to check out another of the unofficial belknap range trails today. despite a drab forecast in other parts of the state it was beautiful in the belknaps today.
