This hike was a good example of why it is best to have the most up to date maps, books, and other information. There were no serious consequences, just surprises. Our destination was a last minute decision, so there was no time to surf this website. The just purchased 5th edition White Mountains waterproof trail map was in my pack in the back of the car, so I consulted a 4th edition map that was close at hand. I had never been on this end of the Greeley Ponds Trail before and I was surprised at the number of ups and downs on it. Eventually we checked the map and realized that we would never reach the Waterville Flume this way any more since the 2014 trail relocation so the pond was a worthy alternative. The views were nice and the fish were jumping. |
