Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None significant.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lower parts of the trail could use some work, even after being recently re routed. It's very wet and muddy on the flat-ish sections. Higher up just after where the trail leaves the old route, there's a massive blowdown which requires bushwhacking around.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine, but not much water. And I hope they like steep.
Bugs
Bugs: Meh. A few in the middle elevations. Down low, not too bad, and too windy at the top.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Another visit to a favorite spot in the Whites, this time from the north, which I'd never done. Don't be fooled by the OHT's mellow first half. It soon becomes a real butt kicker, very steep and straight up the mountain with no real breaks. Above the forest boundary, the trail zig zags a bit to provide some relief, but it also gets slightly steeper at the same time. The outlook ledges were gorgeous as always. Bright sun was replaced by threatening skies, but it never rained. I saw more people than I expected, most had come over from Martha. My next visit will hopefully involve a traverse of the entire mountain, with a twist...
