Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There is room for several vehicles on the side of Hardy Country Road near the trailhead, 0.5 miles from Sculptured Rocks Road, where Hardy Country Road makes a sharp left-hand turn and becomes Spruce Ridge Road. There is a logging landing area adjacent to the trailhead; be mindful that logging in this area may be ongoing.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All rock-hoppable or bridged
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are blowdowns here and there but not significant. The main issues is the beech trees and hobblebush blending in with the blazes - occasional pink surveyor tape was really appreciated!!!!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: plenty of water
Bugs
Bugs: Shockingly no issues!!!! Air was humid and still, and there were occasional showers: I was terrified I'd get eaten alive as the trail follows several streams. Didn't need bug juice!!!!

Comments
Comments: A *LOT* of blazing & flagging on the lesser-used trails (such as Carter Gibbs) - THANKS!!!! Note: many of the footbeds are not obvious - I really had to keep my eyes open for the blazes. These are not trails I would want to do after dark using a headlamp - I left a margin of error in terms of time. Closer towards Cilley's Cave, several unpainted trail signs had their bottom halves completely destroyed - I couldn't find teeth marks but I did find some animal fur along the edges - ?

Excellent hike through wonderful woods with occasional views. I enjoyed the soft footpaths and the challenge of following lightly-followed trails as well as seeing some of my favorite old trail signs again. Always fun to visit Cilley's Cave; the rope is holding up well! Really enjoyed the new bridge near the junction of the Back 80 Loop and Old Dicey Road.

Perfect afternoon for solitude to pause and reflect on Memorial Day.
