Holy Postholes Batman. Even in snowshoes. I got a late start so snow was very soft from the beginning. Managed bearbooting to the loop, but snowshoes made a huge difference, especially with the televators. How did I get up North without them? The trail is a mix of conditions. Just because the monorail is stable in some places does not mean it will be like that a few feet later. Snow cover begins soon after the trailhead. The large crossing before the junction (where it is usually warm) is very open with exposed rocks for about 20 feet. The ice bridges are leaving us. I punched through one and broke off the last portion of the last major crossing before the trailhead. It was a workout, but a great day in the woods. Sad I did not find my mitten from last trip, but hey, it happens. Blog later. One last thing...Pack out your used toilet paper please. |
