Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked on Ossipee Mountain road. I planned to park at the spot where the road crosses the weed brook, however there is posted property there (says it is posted due to past unauthorized trail blazing and mapping, which we know has been an issue in the ossipees.) I found a spot further south where I could nudge in without trespassing.

Comments
Comments: It is confusing that there are two black snouts in the ossipee range. this is not the one that is right next to shaw. It is to the west and the townlines of Moultonboro, sandwich, and tamworth me at the summit.

From where I parked I began to bushwhack towards the weed brook being careful to avoid posted property. I then followed the weed on the north side, staying high and using logged areas and old roads to make progress. I had a great view of my objective as I approached. I stayed high on the north side of the drainage, following a field bearing and eventually climbing steeply up the cone. I did hit some soft knee deep snow, but it was not enough to warrant bringing snowshoes. The woods are not bad at all. The summit is interesting with limited views and a cool open area. The highpoint is marked with a yellow X on a tree.

On the way down I headed further south from the cone and spotted a snowmobile bridge over the weed brook. I crossed it and began following a great gravel road, passing a hunting camp just after the bridge. I followed this road until it hit a farm (not posted) and decided to make a short bushwhack to the road to avoid entering a private yard. For this hike, I would recommend bushwhacking to the road on the south side of the weed and then crossing the bridge just after the camp. I know there are other approaches that probably keep you further from private property.

Great to get out before the rain started.
