Comments
Comments: A nice loop over 3 Belknap Range summits using following lesser used trails. The Boulder Loop Trail was well packed by snowmobile traffic until the split then became a postholed mess. The Belknap Range Trail was well packed with fewer postholes. I went out to S. Straightback and turned around back to the Quarry Spur Trail. The Quarry Spur Trail had one old set of snowshoe tracks on it that I was able to follow. In the saddle it got quite brushy and some care was needed to follow the trail. The North Straightback Link also had one snowshoe track to follow. Brook Trail and Mt. Major Main Trail were both well packed out and had a fair amount of postholes. Some significant ice is starting to form on the lower section of the Main Trail. The snow was solid enough all morning for me to use just light traction. Had it been warmer I sure I would have needed my snowshoes.
