We arrived at the trailhead with the intent of hiking Monroe as we wanted our mid way through the 48 to be a snowy windy presidential that we've seen from other posts. We met s couple that did Washington every year same time. Told us we'd not find a better day. After seeing the views as we climbed the ravine we decided we'd go for it. A beautiful hike up to the hut. Gear up with extra layers and hoods and we were on the summit in under 4 hours from the base. It was the most incredible experience - neither of us had done it since high school 40-50 yrs ago. Temps and wind on top were moderate - perfect day and met many friends. |
