chesley and devils den roads are well snowmobile packed. where devils den road crosses the north side of mt. molly we headed up an old logging/woods road that leads to the summit of molly. this road was untravelled and we were sinking in a foot or more on the ascent. we back tracked and continued on devils den road up to a height of land on devils den where a woods road leaves near a red marked boundary and is signed for foot travel only. this was also untracked up towards the summit. at the base of the cliffs we wound around a bit to the west side to find a good line to the highpoint. snowmobiles were reaching the summit via a trail from the north.
nice hiking today around merrymeeting lake. we got some great local views from both molly and devils den. a few looks up to the ossipees and belknaps as well. great snowshoeing conditions. |
