Lincoln Woods and Black Pond Trial were packed and bare bootable. We followed a previous hiker's boot track through the Black Pond Bushwhack. It ran higher that I normally take but was easy to follow. We cut down early as the track continued high past the usual exit. Lincoln Brook Trail was well packed for a little ways by bar booters. They turned around part way up the trail. These was 1 to 2 inches of powder on a packed trail so we stayed bare boots until the Brutus Bushwhack. Water crossings were partly snow bridged.
We put on our snowshoes and headed up the Brutus Bushwhack. No one have been up this way in a while and there was 8-12" of powder to trail break. The going was steep and tiring but we laid down a nice path. We missed turning up the gully just after you cross the small brook and went a bit wide and looped back. We corrected the trail on the way down. There were 3 other hikers that followed our path so the Brutus Bushwhack and Owls Head Path is well packed out.
Lots of snow in the trees to fall on our heads so we got soaked. Beautiful blue skies today. Too bad Owls head doesn't have any views ;^) |
